Lonsdale Quay Exchange
Movement strategy and wayfinding design to meet growing demand at a key transit hub.
Lonsdale Quay Exchange is Vancouver North Shoreβs principal public transit hub serving almost 30k passengers daily. Lonsdale Quay and the Shipyards District are a major destination for the city and acts as the gateway to the rest of the region.
Steer formed part of the DIALOG team commissioned to design a major upgrade to the exchange that would create a pedestrian-focused facility putting customer needs at the forefront. The upgrade aims to improve comfort, safety, and accessibility; better integrate the exchange with adjacent neighborhoods; and provide more service for the growing customer demand and transit service expansion including a new Rapid Bus service.
Steerβs role through concept and detailed design stages included: transport engineering design; wayfinding strategy and sign design; customer experience; and pedestrian/cyclist access/movement strategy. The firm was subsequently commissioned to develop the Traffic Management Plan to take the project through construction phases to implementation.
