Regent’s University London is spread amongst several buildings and sites and had a variety of of inconsistent wayfinding signage. Our challenge was to create a comprehensive site-wide wayfinding system that would improve the visitor and student experience while also projecting the University's unique character.

Set in Royal Regent’s Park, Regent’s University London has a rich heritage and a long tradition of education and achievement. The University’s previous off-the-shelf wayfinding system was inconsistent and not of the same high standard as the historic buildings within which it sat. Since work began with the University in 2015, Steer’s Design for Movement team developed a wayfinding strategy, piloted a concept signage system and delivered a wider campus roll out that met the University’s unique requirements.

The wayfinding strategy is underpinned by a clear hierarchy of information to help students and visitors reach their destination. It sets out consistent nomenclature, icons to depict universally understood destinations and prioritises destinations based on user needs.

Using the University’s branding we developed a simple modular signage system that is bespoke to the University and reflects their values and aspirations.

Deliverables included a wayfinding strategy with internal building plans in order to identity how best to communicate information and the connections between buildings, a concept pilot signage system for one of the buildings, followed by a refined system and finally artwork for all the campus buildings. In addition, we designed a user-focused campus map for print as well as online use. The print map is an A4 double-sided sheet which includes a location context map on the reverse, highlighting strategic transport connections.
