Bogotá Bicentennial Wayfinding
Bogotá is fast becoming one of Latin American's success stories and the city is again becoming a magnet for tourists.
To help visitors navigate he revitalised city during its bicentennial celebration, Steer was commissioned by the “Instituto Distrital de Turismo” to develop a commemorative wayfinding trail and interprative information displays for a two-mile pedestrrian route that ambled through cobblestone streets, historical squares, and
400 year old churches mixed with cafes and modern high rises in the city's historic centre of la Candelaria.
A kit of temporary wayfinding elements helped promote the bicentennial.
Oversized numbered balloons provided long-distance visiblity and added a celebratory touch. Directional and locational banners identified building entrances and guided walkers from decision points to the next three destinations on the route. Hand out maps were given away as on street navigational aids and as a keepsake souvenir, and interpretative totems provided historical context through words and images.
Permanent waymarkers of bronze and steel serve as a lasting legacy.
